[alt.sources.d] mawk 0.995

brennan@ssc-vax.UUCP (Mike Brennan) (06/11/91)

mawk 0.995 an implementation of new awk
can be obtained by anonymous ftp from oxy.edu(134.69.1.2)
in ftp/public/mawk0.995.tar.Z

I can email it to those without ftp access.

Benchmarks included in this distribution indicate mawk
is faster than most new awks; sometimes by a factor of
2 to 3.

Mawk also allows RS to be a regular expression.

This will be released as mawk 1.0 once I add a troffable man page.

major changes from version 0.97:

		faster arrays
		3 bug fixes
work around for sun4,4.0.3 strtod() bug
		new source file organization

Target OS is all flavors of UNIX and MsDOS
	compiled and tested on:

	sun3, SunOS4.0.3
	sun4, SunOS4.0.3[c]
	BSD43 VAX
	SysVR3 on Stardent3000
	Ultrix4.1 on MicroVax3600
	Ultrix4.1 on mips

This was intended to be an e-mailed response.....but it was immediately
rejected ("Returned mail: Host unknown" type failure). So, it just became
a followup posting....

no doubt will work on a VAXstation 3100 with Ultrix 4.1

GREAT! if there are any special things I need to also keep TC++ happy,
please pass them on, if you hadn't already planned to.

Thanks in advance!
