Bridge, Sytek, and 3Com have entered an agreement with Xerox where Xerox gave them the application level protocols to run "on top of" the XNS Courier protocol. This would allow (after some development effort and new product announcements) an IBM-PC to print something on the Xerox laser print server. Actually I'm not sure that they all got all the protocols. They each got the protocols which make since for their particular product line. 3COM got the Print Server protocol (Interpress), Bridge and 3COM got the gateway access protocol (GAP), etc. At any rate, 3Com, Bridge, and Sytek are working together to get a complete baseband-broadband network with PC and Vax, etc., boards, gateways, and terminal servers. All the products will be based on the XNS protocols through the application layers which will make them all more money. Of course, the current product line doesn't incor- porate all of this yet. The above information came from an official at 3Com. I don't think I'm saying anything which he didn't want me to repeat. -- from the DMZ of Skip Addison The Office of Telecommunications and Networking Georgia Tech, Atlanta GA 30332 CSNet: Skip @ GATech ARPA: Skip.GATech @ UDel-Relay uucp: ...!{akgua,allegra,rlgvax,sb1,unmvax,ut-ngp,ut-sally}!gatech!skip
