I am looking for a device that allows ordinary ASCII RS232 terminals to be connected into a Sun or Vax over the network. Sort of like the ARPANET TIP or TAC, but preferably using Ethernet and costing a lot less. It must speak TCP/IP, so that the users can come in over telnet or rlogin. I would settle for an inexpensive UNIX with efficient RS232 ports, but I would think such a device could be built without a disk and without UNIX for only a few thousand dollars, certainly no more than $1000/port. Does it exist, or is it under development?
