[net.lan] XNS for 4.2bsd Unix

Silicon Graphics, makers of the Iris (68010 + Geometry Engine + Ethernet +
4.2bsd Unix) are developing a full Xerox Network Systems protocol package
for their machine. Or so informed rumor has it.

Now, if only they unbundle it and make it run on a 780 ....

We have an Iris workstation and are interested in getting together with
other Iris users to talk about the network support for this product.

We have been told that come tuesday we will have the code for our 4.2bsd
systems to talk back to the Iris. The code is for XNS but does not go in
as 'another' protocol to the protocol switch (ie where TCP goes), it will
go in into teh kernel and look like a terminal driver and you will talk
to it as if the workstation is directly connected to the vax. Now that is
fine if you have a device that is basicly a terminal, but other companys
are also writing protocol code for 4.2bsd in the same manner (Symbolics
and there chaos-net code).

Has anyone else done work on getting a another protocol into 4.2bsd?
