In planning the new building for the Computer Science Department at UNC - Chapel Hill, we wish to ensure a well designed communications plant. We will be installing numerous transmission media (paired- conductor, 75-ohm coax, Ethernet, fiber optics) to all locations in the building. We will require point-to-point, switched, and networked facilities for various services (telephone, digital, RS170A video, wideband RGB video) within the building, as well as external connections to the telephone company, campus broadband network, and the microwave network operated by the Microelectronics Center of North Carolina. To achieve our objectives, we are seeking expertise qualified in all of the communications technologies involved. This includes electronic telephone switches and distribution, CATV, baseband and broadband video, baseband and broadband digital networking, fiber optics systems, and cabling and configuration of all the above transmission media. If you know of a competent individual or firm that can provide us with professional services covering all of the above technologies, please let me know.
