I seem to recall that after harvests it is common to burn the remains of
the dying plants to dispose of them and to help fertilize the soil for
new growth (you inter the ashes afterwards).  This also suggests fall,
which implies an end to growing things, such as plants and relationships.

I could be wrong, however.  In any event, it works very nicely for me.
