[net.lan] Ethernet analyzers

Does anyone have any experience with Ethernet/802.3 protocol
analyzers such as the Excelan Nutcracker?  I am looking into
getting some such device for network development and would like
to hear about experiences anyone might have had.

All that I know is that the sales literature claims that it has
"Microcoated" state machines in it.  Sort of like M&M's, I guess.
