[rec.music.gaffa] RarePlay

turney@CS.CORNELL.EDU (Jenn Turney) (04/12/90)

I'd like to stake a claim for being the first member of the group to
hear "Ken" played ON THE RADIO! Yes, you heard me correctly.

Last night's "Artists Only" program on the local college station
featured none other than Our Lady. Playlist for the hour-long show
went:
  Sat In Your Lap
  Suspended in Gaffa
  The Dreaming
Running Up That Hill (extended version)
  Hounds of Love (extended version)
  Cloudbusting (alternative mix)
  Experiment IV
  December Will Be Magic Again
  This Woman's Work
Be Kind To My Mistakes (Reader's Digest version)
Between a Man and a Woman
  Ken
  The Sensual World

I've never heard any of the alternative mixes (aside from Jon's
creations) and I know some of them have agreed-upon names. For
Cloudbusting, the version played adds some echo to Kate's voice towards
the beginning. What's this mix called?

I didn't know what to expect with "Ken". It's very different, certainly
not unpleasantly so. I want to hear it again!

Hmmm, WHFS here in the D.C. area has been playing "Ken" fairly
regularly for several weeks now. I even heard it before I bought it
(a rare occurence for a Kate release). Considering that normally they
play ~1 Kate tune/2 weeks except when there's a new album when they'll
play something (usually the single, tho' thankfully this time they
were playing "TSW" rather than "L&A" [which was getting alot of play
on MTV at the same time]) every couple of days, this is pretty
unusual.

That would be the Orgonon Mix. Identified incorrectly on at least
one release as the Meteorological Mix but don't you believe it. The
Meteorological Mix is the remix of "The Big Sky" (with all those
quotes about "that cloud looks like richard nixon" etc ad infinitum)

I guess for the record we should mention that the RUTH 12" is called
"extended version", HOL 12" is "alternative hounds", Experiment IV 12"
is "extended version." There are a few "special single mixes" for
some TSW songs but who really cares...

Incidentally, while visiting friends in Boston to see The Residents,
we came up with about 800 appellations for my remix of "Love and
Anger" most of which were far more amusing than "Southerly Wind Mix."
My version of RUTH has become known variously as "the chipmunk mix" or
"katemas 88 mix"... take your pick

Which Jenn Turney ? You mean she's famous ...

>as if there could ever be another...

I got yer tape Jon. Thanks muchly. Who was that singing The Sensual
World ? My girlfriend nearly cried when she heard what you did to L&A
but I thought it was great fun.
Good stuff.

Anyone celebrating KaTemas near me this year so I can gatecrash? I
didn't do anything last year. I don't think I'll be able to make Boston.

Greetings...

Sorry to burst your bubble, Jenn, but I can prove that on March 23 I played
"Ken" on my show here at WESU, and have played it on three shows since. Also,
last Monday morning I woke up to it as my alarm went off at the tail end of Val
Nozick's show (I'm pretty sure she reads this group...). So, people in the
Middletown, Connecticut area have been hearing it for quite a while,
relatively.

It's a truly great song. She's singing "Rawhide"!!! Gotta love it...

Yeah, good to hear that SOMEBODY freaked out. That was the basic
goal. I've been trying to decide if its worth sending IED a
complimentary copy... he might just throw it away without listening.
I could put a label that said "THE LONG LOST KATE BUSH "THE EARLY
YEARS" ALBUM" on it, I suppose.

That was the world famous Jenn Turney singing The Sensual World, of
course!

Too bad, Boston is where it's at! (A way cool town)
