Really-From: woj <woiccare@pebbles.sct.clarkson.edu> picked up their new record in nyc for a few dollars a few days ago... wow. i was slightly prepared since i already had _make djibouti_, but this still blew me away. moody, melodic, dark music comprised mostly of deep basslines and drums, _swollen_ pounds into the brain without using a hammer (i can't wait to get my turntable for the system so i can make a cassette recording for the walkman! i'm listening to it right now on a piss poor emerson compact stereo that, well, works). at times, _swollen_ also has a theatrical and dramatic feel to it that just heightens the effect. i think one way to put it is that hetch hetcy pushes the listener to the edge of a cliff, dangles them there for a few minutes until they are willing to fall and then leaves them hanging - like an orgasm waiting to be... woj (trivia: where does their name come from? kudos and a sloppy electronic kiss to the first correct answer - xicvickie and chris don't count... :)

Really-From: adobe!!dkletter@decwrl.dec.com (It's all fun and games until someone PUTS AN EYE OUT) i bought _Swollen_ a month or so back, and i have to agree. too bad you only have the turntable, it's sounds excellent on CD! anyone who sees this album should definately add it to their kollection! it'll be well worth it. you mentioned another album of theirs, any idea if it's available on CD? i didn't even know that they had other albums since i bought this one on a whim (great how those things are, huh?) oh yes... the name is from the Hetch Hetchy river/falls in Yosemite. aren't they a local SF band? cheers.--dk -- "Yellow... black and rectangular... with wedged shapes inside... Oh, I see them everywhere... Am I losing my mind?"

Hetch Hetchy is the name of the reservoir in Yosemite National Park that supplies San Francisco and much of the surrounding area with water. It was a very controversial project in the 1950's (I believe) because it involved the flooding of a valley almost as beautiful as Yosemite Valley. A couple of years ago the Secretary of the Interior proposed getting rid of the reservoir and returning the valley to its natural state. But by now so many people depend on water from Hetch Hetchy that it just doesn't seem possible. Ed ed@das.llnl.gov
