[rec.music.gaffa] Canadian Videos

I'm visiting Canada and the US during the next month and I'd like to
pick up some Kate-stuff while I'm away.

Can someone tell me what KaTe videos are available in Canada
right now? I understand that Live at Hammersmith isn't available in
the US anymore but I was wondering whether this might still be
available in Canada.

Some more Kate questions in Canada -- who owns her catalogue there?
Is it all EMI as in the UK or spplit between CBS and EMI.
Also, what rarities would be possible to obtain there that I might not
be able to get in the UK? While I'm at it, what things might I be able
to get only in the UK that I cannot get in North America?

Anyone know of a good CD store in Baltimore wher I can get some KaTe
stuff?

Thanks in advance for any information.

Pablo

I believe Capitol-EMI handles Kate in Canada.

If you haven't got the CD box set yet, you _might_ want to hold
off a bit. Canadian prices for it are around $150 CDN, with the
lowest being $120 CDN (which is what I paid at a local Marquee
Records--Division of A&A Records). The Canadian "release" is
just the UK release imported by the record company.

On a slightly different note, the cast of the Toronto staging
of Andrew Lloyd Webber's Phantom of the Opera is coming out with
a cast recording around November 25. It stars Colm Wilkinson
as the Phantom and Rebecca Caine as Christine. To my ears,
Rebecca is clearly superior to Sarah Brightman in the role (as
she appears on the London cast recording) and Colm is every
bit as good as Michael Crawford (some say better). I've seen
both the Toronto and (current, some 4 years after opening)
London productions, and Toronto wins hands down. You might want
to try for some of the daily rush tickets if you are going through
Toronto, to see that musical. And you might want to check out
this new Phantom recording. I know I will. Supposedly, it is
a single CD offering, at about $27 CDN.

P.S. To all the convention reporters, much thanks for making me
feel like I was there. In a heated struggle between doing well
academically this term and seeing Kate, Kate lost out this time.
BUT, I'll definitely try to see her play live come next year.
Now that's something worth failing a course or two for!

Are you aware that the US and England have different TV-standards?
In the UK you have PAL, and in the US NTSC....
Which means you won`t be able to play US tapes in a UK VCR.

What cities are you visiting in Canada? There are some good shops in Montreal

I haven't seen Live at Hammersmith anywhere here.

I saw it a couple of months back at "The Record Runner" here in Ottawa,
Ontario, Canada. When I purchased my copy 3 years ago, it wasn't on the
shelves - I phoned around looking for a video store that would order
me stuff. "The Record Runner" imported the Sensual World videos from
the US for me. I've been trying to get the re-released "The Single File"
(aka "The Singles File") video from the US (it was mentioned in
Homeground #39) but to no avail (yet) 8^(.
