Really-From: ed@das.llnl.gov (Edward Suranyi) My .gaffa path seems to be working again (at least, I saw my complaining message). Several people told me that they too are missing some of the last couple of days. So I thought I'd repost my two postings that got lost someplace between gaffa and much of the rest of the world My apologies to those who have seen them already. I hope that there are not too many people out there who are sick of my postings. I can't help it -- when I'm excited I like to post. I've been in a continual state of excitement since the KonvenTion. Anyway, I just thought of making a list of famous people who, through their words or deeds, have indicated that they are Kate fans. (Of course, "famous" is not strictly defined.) I do not include people who have worked with Kate unless *in addition* they have stated that they are Kate fans. I also do not include any of the many critics who have praised Kate's albums, unless the critic is nationally known. I currently don't know of any in that category. Here's the list: Sinead O'Connor Peter Gabriel Midge Ure (formerly of Ultravox) Nigel Kennedy John Hughes Nicolas Roeg Suzanne Vega Dave Gilmour Pat Benatar Donny Osmond Natalie Cole Ozzy Osbourne Robert Smith (of the Cure) Paul Kantner (of Jefferson Airplane) Simon Le Bon and Nick Rhodes (of Duran Duran) one of the members of XTC (Andrew Partridge, I think. Jon Drukman can correct me if I'm wrong.) I would certainly appreciate comments, objections, questions, and, especially, additions. Thanks! All should bow to the Goddess! I would have an addition but I can't recall her name - a canadian singer, who on an interview on t.v. said she was influenced by Kate...wasn't too impressed with this person who was an artsy fartsy trying to imitate the goddess, any canadians know who I'm talking about?? Anyone have the words to December will be Magic Again?? Harg hargieka@clutx.clarkson.edu

You're wrong. It was Colin Moulding. Really-From: Jeff Burka <jburka@silver.ucs.indiana.edu> Piffle; I can't remember the quote and I can't find the file. A while back someone sent me a chunk o' interview concerning The Ninth Wave. There were a few 'tidbits' of info before the actual interview, and it seems to me that one of them concerned Fish, ex-of Marillion, stating that he would really like to work with KaTe. So it seems there's another fan to add to your list... Jeff -- |Jeffrey C. Really-From: fowler@kaa.eng.ohio-state.edu (Jim Fowler) Add the female lead singer of the Sugarcubes (I can't remember or even spell her name :-) ) She was quoted in Rolling Stone has having felt like, or wanted to be, Kate's long lost daughter, or something of the sort. She's rather strange... -- Jim Fowler "Here are the young men fowler@ee.eng.ohio-state.edu with weight on their shoulders" Electrical Engineering - Joy Division The Ohio State University

Perhaps Sarah McLachlan, whom I know has said she was influenced by Kate Bush. P.S. There are two S. MacLachlans and two S. McLachlans in the phone book, and I'm not about to phone them up to see which is the right spelling. Guess I'll just have to wait for Ed to flame me if I chose the wrong one. :-) -- Mark Anderson manderso@mprgate.mpr.ca

Really-From: ed@das.llnl.gov (Edward Suranyi) Some people have asked for my evidence that these people are Kate fans. Here it is: Sinead O'Connor -- see my signature Peter Gabriel -- he asked Kate to sing with him several times Midge Ure (formerly of Ultravox) -- asked Kate to sing on his album, and praised her in interviews Nigel Kennedy -- has praised Kate in interviews John Hughes -- asked Kate to sing for his movie Nicolas Roeg -- asked Kate to sing for his movie Suzanne Vega -- The Dreaming one of her favorite albums of the 80s. Dave Gilmour -- discovered Kate Pat Benatar -- covered W. Heights, which she said was a "beautiful song" Donny Osmond -- called "Don't Give Up" his "theme song" Natalie Cole -- covered "The Man With..." several times Ozzy Osbourne -- TSW one of his favorite albums of the year Robert Smith (of the Cure) -- TSW one of his favorite albums of the year Paul Kantner (of Jefferson Airplane) -- TSW on his Christmas wish list Simon Le Bon and Nick Rhodes (of Duran Duran) -- played the video for Sat in Your Lap when they were guest DJs on MTV Colin Moulding (of XTC) -- said he was a Kate fan in the XTC fanzine. (Jon Drukman can probably provide the exact quote). In addition, I've thought of: Roy Harper -- asked Kate to sing on his album, twice. Other people have mentioned: Sarah McLachlan -- said she'd been influenced by Kate Mick Karn -- IED says he has praised Kate Fish (of Marillion) -- why? Dave Gahan (of Depeche Mode) -- why? Really-From: kk4fs!s_fungus@crdgw1.ge.com (Slender Fungus) Joy Division, eh? Do you, by any chance, have "An Ideal for Living" or "Dante's Inferno"? I have "Unknown Pleasures", "Closer", and "Substance"... I also got "Here are the Young Men" (live video) with lots of neat stuff. Actually, looking at a discography of theirs, all the stuff on "An Ideal..." is on "Substance" (CD version). I saw "Still" at Tower Records, but I was limited on money, and I had more than half the stuff already... I'm not sure if "Dante's Inferno" is an album...I just saw a poster and a T-shirt with that as a title... Kate and Ian...what a pair. (heh)

Really-From: ed@das.llnl.gov (Edward Suranyi) How could I have forgotten Annie Lenox of the Eurythmics? After winning the 1986 BPI award for Best British Female Artist (Kate was also nominated), she said, "I thought Kate Bush would win. She's incredible, and I think what she's done is phenomenal." Thanks to Jorn for reminding me of this. Ed ed@das.llnl.gov
