	       Sytek Network Users Group meeting

	                SNUG - 3

	    February 19 - 21, 1985 Portland, OR

The Sytek Network Users Group was founded in 1983 by a group of the ear-
liest users of Sytek's LocalNet products. The founders represented university,
government and manufacturing enterprises. SNUG is an independent, user-run
organization, funded by membership fees paid by attendees at the membership
meetings.

SNUG is thus a young organization. The organizational meeting in June of
1983 was followed by a second general membership meeting in March of 1984.
SNUG-3 will be held in Portland, Oregon on February 19-21, 1985. SNUG-4 has
already been scheduled for November, 1985. Nearly one-hundred people attended
SNUG-2; we anticipate considerably larger attendance at SNUG-3.

                                  Objectives
SNUG was established to meet these needs of the Sytek user community:

Enhanced information exchange and experience sharing among users

Feedback to Sytek on users' experience and concerns with current products
     and product support

Formulation, prioritization, and statement to Sytek of users' product
     development and enhancement requirements

                             Attendance and Membership
The Sytek Network Users Group is devoted to furthering the interests of
users of Sytek Broadband LAN products. Membership in SNUG is limited to
representatives of enterprises that own or have ordered Sytek's LocalNet pro-
ducts; non-owners who are involved or interested in using Sytek's products for
their communications applications are welcome at general membership meetings.

                             Member Participation
SNUG's viability as an independent organization that can influence
Sytek's directions and priorities in supporting existing products, and on the
development of new and enhanced products, depends on active participation in
SNUG by a broad base of Sytek product users. The activities at SNUG meetings,
and the interaction among users and with Sytek between meetings that make SNUG
effective, are the result of time and effort contributed to SNUG by its Off-
icers, Project Managers, and other members who are willing to participate in
presentations, panel sessions, project groups, and other activities.

                               Working Projects
SNUG has established project groups to focus on members' concerns with
Sytek's current products, and with broadband network application requirements
that Sytek's current or future products may or should address. The currently
active projects are:

     LocalNet 20 considers the current LN 20 product line (T-box, T-mux, S-
mux, T-bridge/link, T-verter) --- user problems and product deficiencies,
and prioritized requirements for product enhancements and new products.

Network Management and Control considers the larger issues of network
management and tools. Existing problems and network managers' solutions
not limited to the Sytek NCC product will be discussed. Future require-
ments for network management support will be identified.

3270 Communications considers current and future Sytek support for IBM
327x device attachment in a broadband distribution environment.

PC Networking is a new working group established during SNUG-3 planning
sessions to consider Sytek's broadband LAN product announced for IBM PC
networking in the context of total network architecture and topology.

Break-out sessions (Project Workshops) are held at each general member-
ship meeting to consolidate and prioritize users' requirements for Sytek pro-
duct enhancement and new product development as identified by the working
groups.
