[rec.music.gaffa] Box Set

I would be very interested in what ICE has to say about it, especially
availability. I thought there were 34 tracks for the 2 extra discs (what are
they lopping off? - please let it be the TSW single CD b-sides)

I assume it will be a regular release in the UK i.e. not a limited edition.
I think $200 to $250 is probably a rip off Jorn. Vickie stated that Peter of
Homeground indicated the UK price will be about 70 pounds. That will
translate to around $140-$150 here. Rather than pay some gouger an extra
$50-$100 I think it would be better to find another importer of CDs or call
HMV in London to mail order it (don't forget you'll have to pay duty on it via
mail).

I am assuming it will be available here from import dealers. If not I would
certainly like to know so that I can make other arrangements. I was hoping it
might come out in early October so my brother could bring a set over for me
but.......

One point I would like to make is that CDs have not penetrated the UK market
as well as the US market and with a hefty price they might not sell very
quickly in Britain. Hopefully EMI will make enough for everyone else in the
world who is curious / interested / mesmerized / fanatical. Also if you can
get a set before December you'll avoid the Christmas rush.

Is there a release date? Has the countdown started?

I suppose the UK Love-Hounds will have a time advantage and will be gloating
over the net for a couple of weeks before we get it over here (N. America) :-(

BE WARNED :according to (sorry forgot who posted it), ICE said it will not be
available domestically from a US manufacturer (remember her catalogue is split
between EMI/Capitol and CBS), nor will the b-side discs be available
separately. It's the whole thing on import or nothing.

Impatiently,

Derek

My first post - I hope you all recieve one copy, not 10!

WRT to box set, is there any problem with some of us KT fans in the UK
buying it and sending it to stateside LoveHounds? Would this work out
any cheaper? Just an idea.

Build high for happiness,

So far so good :-)

Probably not Ian. My local dealer here in San Diego sells imported European
CDs for the same it would cost to buy in Europe i.e. a #12 CD sells for $20.
The sales tax cancels out the cost of shipping. Unless dealers get greedy it
should be competitively priced in stores here with any other means of getting
hold of the set.

OK, the missing tracks are (according to the ICE article's listing) :

Dreamtime
Man with the Child in his Eyes (single mix -"He's here")
Running Up That Hill (instrumental)
The Sensual World (Instrumental)
The Confrontation (G.L.C.)

Aaaaaaaaargh! The disappointment continues.....

Vickie, I don't think praying will help. You know it will be the b-side of
TWW and not the original version.

Can anyone find me the CD single of "The Sensual World"?

Derek

I'm certain I saw it in a display case at a local store where they
keep the import CDs. It was $22 and so I didn't buy it. If you are
thinking about it, I can call and ask if they still have it. BTW could
you explain a couple of posts I saw. Since I read r.a.g infrequently,
I didn't understand. They talked about a list of people and made
references to copying VHS tapes and passing it on to other people.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
Does anyone know of a record store in CT which has a copy of the box set in
stock NOW? One store was supposed to get a copy of it in today, but when I
called, they said that it *may* come in on Monday. I simply cannot wait until
then, just to maybe get a copy. I'm in Middletown, but would be willing to go
anywhere to get a copy.

One other observation I made while shopping in Montreal... the LP set
routinely either was not sold at all, or was sold for markedly more
than the CD set. I think the guy at the store said that the special
import to canada deal was only for the CDs (and possibly cassettes)
but *not* for LPs. I guess they figured the market just wasn't there for
LPs, although I do find this to be quite curious nonetheless...

Tee hee, tee hee.

It's finally here.

a) Whoever it was that said that "Un Baiser D'Enfant" is better than the
original, you're right (I think someone said that; I know someone commented
on it...)

b) I remember a lot of complaining a while back because people's sets
contained the mid-line "Fame" pressings of some of the early albums. My
set contains none of the mid-lines (phew!). Has EMI listened to the
bitching and started giving only the regular stuff?

c) Sigh. You're all right. The pictures in the CD booklet are *way* too
small. But hey, at least I have a nifty box to keep my CDs in.

d) WHAT AM I GONNA DO WITH THE STICKERS?

e) How did I live without these B-sides? "Under the Ivy" is mindblowing.

f) First time I heard "Lord of the Reedy River," I thought it was going to
"Playing Canasta in Cold Rooms" (I wasn't looking at the track list). Is
it just me, or is does the melody/words of that first line ("I fell in
love...") sound just like "PCiCR"? I wish it had been, I'd love a decent
recording of that song!

g) So what if I now have two or three copies of all the TSW B-sides (this
is what happens when you mix import 12"s and CD singles with domestic
singles)?

h) Heaven. Absolute heaven.

<contented sigh>

Jeff
