[rec.music.gaffa] THE BIG SKY!!!

padgett@ATHENA.CS.UGA.EDU (Charles Allen Padgett) (04/14/91)

This is great! I'd only heard the album HOL one time before this week,
and never really listened to it then--but after seeing the TWS video
album, and seeing on it THE BIG SKY, I knew I had to have HOL--and now
I can't get The Big Sky out of my head--it's got my vote for the best
song ever made! Others may look at me funny, when I climb out onto the
roof with my binoculars, but the spell is cast!!!

Funny...for a long time, "The Big Sky" was my least favorite song on HoL.

Now I don't have a least favorite song. :-)

I do, however, admit to preferring the meteorological mix. BTW, did Paddy
play the digeridu on that? I thought I remember hearing that he had
(I know it was Rolf Harris on "The Dreaming").

"Rolling over like a great big cloud..."

A man of taste!!! I don't know if THE BIG SKY is the song ever made, but THE
BIG SKY video is the best video ever made, as al cultured people know. I
had exactly the same experience of really falling for the BIG SKY first after
having seen the rest of the video on the tape. It was the only "new" song for
me as I had had the Whole Story album for years and The Big Sky isn't on it.
That's probably the album to get next, though, like I said it doesn't have THE
BIG SKY on it.

I also like the extended mix, but not btter. It does happen to be my favorite
oops second favorite. I think I like EXPERIMENT IV is the best, cause it
actually seemed to add the most to the song, at least by my thinking. Also it
seemed to me the least "obvious" extentented mix, you listen to it and it
almost seems like just a longer version of the same same song, where the
others seem more obviously patched together, not that I don't like them.

I feel the same way. Ok, so The Ninth Wave suite is wonderful, but when
my HoL CD finishes, the first thing I do is play TBS again. It *is* a
bit lightweight and whimsical by KaTe's standards, but it's just so
wonderfully energetic and dynamic, to call it exquisite is an
understatement...
