The catalog I got with my first order (I got it yesterday) mentioned that
Warpaint is also available on tape for the same price as the rest of the
tapes.

And my first Happy impressions: Very good, but gloomy...I would have
appreciated a greater diversity in the music. It's not that it's bad or
boring - Happy's voice is REALLY AMAZING in both its ranges. I will agree
100% with someone who compared her voice to a hybrid of Annie Lennox's
and KaTe's. I won't make any more comments before I listen to the tapes
for a couple of more days.

BTW, the first four albums were made in a short period of time. What happened
between Ecto and Warpaint? Is Warpaint any different in terms of style?
More rythmic maybe??

The first four albums were released in a very short period of time, but I
dunno how long it actually took to record them (though I'll admit that
no matter how long it took, the actual recording and mixing was far faster
than most artists even think about...). I do know that Happy did her first
recording at age 18, and I happen to know that some of those first recordings
made it onto Volume I (including "The Wretches Gone Awry").

As for the period between the first four albums (which were released
in '86 and '87) and _Warpaint_ in '91, I think there's one main thing
to which the waiting period can be attributed--Happy's desire to do it
up right... The first four albums were played, recorded (ie she worked
the controls in the studio), and mixed by Happy alone. She wanted to
have a far higher quality on _Warpaint_, which involved the cost of
hiring musicians, paying for the far-better-quality studio, CD mastering,
proper liner notes, and so on. The album was put together, song by song,
as Happy could afford it. It is a much more rhythmic album, with very
little of Happy's acoustic guitar work (the one thing I feel the album is
missing!).

Does anyone have a phone number for Aural Gratification? I would very
much like to order Happy's music, and would do so now if I had a phone
number (and they could take credit card info over the phone). On the
other hand, I know how incredibly bad I am at sending real, physical
mail...

(I've tried directory assistance in their home city/area code, but no
number was available, so perhaps they simply cannot take phone orders.
Anyone know?)

Hi all! retry here after last nights fiasco!

anyway!

News about Kate:
We were down in Memphis the other day and happened to walk into the
Limited in Oak Court Mall and they were playing Kate! It was on a
compilation tape, and was "The Morning Fog." The Limited puts these
tapes together so someone out there likes her! :)

Also if you ever go to Gotham City Comics (in Germantown TN) Dennis
the proprietor is a big Kate fan, and would love to argue the possibilities
of Kate touring (hee).

News about Happy:
HAPPY IS!!!! (the holy ghost) for you nonbelievers!!

I have wanted to write a comment about her album covers for some time
now, but just haven't had the time. ANyway!~ They are simply marvelous,
and yes...she too must peek around for those demons that sneak up
around at any given moment.
They are odd, but people they are an extension of Happy's art form,
her humor, and if you can appreciate Kate's weirdness you should be
able to appreciate something that comes from the soul!
P.S. if you love cats you WILL love NOone HEre by Happy....listen
careful like ----meeeow!

Look for us on Phobos, but we're in hiding cause it's the wrong century!
