To bring everyone up to date: On June 26 I made a formal call for a new group Comp.unix.aix. Since then there has been 22 responses, both posted and mailed, only two have been against. The rules say we must hold a discussion for at least two weeks before voting. At this time however it seems very likely that a vote will be held. I would like to hear more discussion about the name and charter for the group. The two suggestions have been for comp.unix.aix and comp.unix.ibm. Both follow from the names of other news groups: comp.unix.aux and comp.unix.cray. The arguments seem to be that the IBM group would allow discussion of AIX, BSD (AOS) and ports of Unix by third parties. The AIX group would be *mainly* for AIX and OSF machines. WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE? Thank you for helpful comments. PS A number of people where dismayed that I requested no IBM bashing. OK, you can bash IBM. Just be sure it is original and funny. ____________________________________________________________________________ Paul J.
