Does anyone out there have information and/or sources relating to Ethernet terminal concentrators? Is it reasonable to configure a VAX 11/785 supporting 40-80 users with all tty stuff going down the Ethernet to 5-10 terminal concentrators? (This theoretical machine would theoretically be running 4.2 BSD.) Any details of hardware would be very welcome too. Does anyone know whether such an Ethernet configuration would be supported by Network Research Corp.'s Fusion software, since we already have this running on a couple of Codata CTW-300 unix machines. -- vvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvv > Rich Artym, Elec.Eng., Univ.College of Swansea, Swansea SA2 8PP, Wales, UK. < > UUCP : {UK}!ukc!ru-cs44!cybavax!rartym ; JANET : rartym@swxa/234207920018 < ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

VAX-11/785 is *not* a theoretical machine and it does run 4.2BSD. As a matter of fact, our netmachine (diku) is a '785 (the first in Europe we have been told), and have - for some months now (2-3 months) - been running 4.2BSD, but with some problems, though, due to some hardware and educational problems (The DEC people had not learned what a VAX-11/785 was fur ein ding - you known in our days the technical progress goes faster than the people installing and using them (:-)). --------- Snail: Dennis Olsson, DIKU, Sigurdsgade 41, DK-2200 Copenhagen N, Denmark. And I think someone said, that it was the first one in Europe (but I might have got it wrong). --------- Snail: Dennis Olsson, DIKU, Sigurdsgade 41, DK-2200 Copenhagen N, Denmark.
