[comp.unix.cray] VECTORAL Compiler

ramesh@ux1.cso.uiuc.edu (Ramesh Jayaraman ) (04/13/91)

I would like to hear experiences of people using Vectoral compiler (as I
understand it, Vectoral takes a scalar (Fortran like syntax ?) code and
generates Vector instructions and object code for Crays - I don't know
which Crays or if Vectoral is installed under Unicos).

I also hear from a colleague that when he tested Vectoral in the summer
of '89, it produced code MUCH slower than the equivalent Fortran code in
two test cases !

What is the current use of Vectoral among the Ames community (especially
Computational Fluid Dynamicists) ? Does Vectoral produce code code
comparable in performance to to that produced by cf77 ? What is the
current version of Vectoral and where can I get more information ?

Is it true that some NAS codes are still written for Vectoral and not cf77 ?

Thanks,
