[comp.protocols.iso.dev-environ] Retix User's Group

crtwrght@motcid.UUCP (Jeffrey R. Cartwright) (01/10/91)

I sent out the following request:

	Subject: Retix Port

I am involved in testing a port of the Retix ISO stack. I
think it might be beneficial for users of Retix to team up
and share bug information, porting difficulties, etc.

	Please Contact: Jeff Cartwright
			(708)-658-1165
			motcid!crtwrght@uunet.uu.net

I have been informed that Motorola is under a non-disclosure
agreement with Retix. To adequately describe bugs, I would have
to talk about the code, so I won't be able to supply any
information. Sorry. Retix provides bug information to users
that subscribe to their service. I would still be interested in
information about testing upper layer OSI software (FTAM, CMISE,
ACSE).

Anyways, I got the following responses (some edits have been made):

 Hello...
We use Retix products as well.. There was a move to start a Retix
User's group! I am trying to get more info on that.
In any case, I can share our experience with x400, x500, ASN.1 and
ISO upper layers.

I would be interested. I have a port running on Sun-3/80's and
will soon be involved with a port to Unisys DeskTop IIIs.

hi this is dan molinelli from TRW in LA. we have a compac 386/33
running retix's wan (wt-325), lan (lt-610) and their ftam (ft-820)
and x.400 (mh-440 and mh-420 UAs).
we're using the platform as part of the AIA GOSIP Demo Project,
suspored by some AIA panel.
(i'm helping people from Grumman and Pratt-Whitney setup their
retix's platforms also.)

so i (we) would be VERY interested in sharing retix info/bugs etc.

please put me on the mailing exploder and i'll forward.

thanks

I would be very much interested in getting the bug info
while porting Retix stuff. Soon we are going to take up this
porting activity.

thanks much,

If it's not giving away any trade secrets, I'd like to know
more about what you're doing with Retix and their software. IR&D
~$120K on X.500 software from Retix for "network management". I
have limited experience with the ISODE but have never gotten my hands
on anything from Retix outside of the poster.

We are running the Retix ISO stack with SunOS 4.03, however, we are
having difficulties getting it to run under 4.1. We are interested
in being involved with a Retix UG, so if you get many responses, keep
me informed.

Here at OSI, we are currently *not* users of the Retix stack, although
we are involved with a product called NetExpert, which handles network
management as called out for by the Forum.

I would be very interested in receiving emails on the Retix stack, and
may have some useful insights from time to time.

Anxiously awaiting your volley.

I am just beginning a Retix port, and am having what I hear are the
usual documentation problems. My port will be to SUN Sparcstations
(and potentially, IBM RISCs). So far, I have been working on a SUN
NIT daemon. I would like to have a multi-user port (via IPCs to a
TP4/CLNP daemon, which talks to the NIT daemon). It would be nice,
ultimately, to have a streams version. So... I am interested in your
suggestion.

Anyway, one of the things you are doing is "near and dear" to my
project plans. Specifically, although I am not porting the Retix
stack(s) to MCD platforms, I will be a user of these ported stacks.
Could you please tell me a little bit about what you are doing, your
status, etc? Are you working with Jim Holbrook (Phx) or Randy Clayton
(Urbana) in your porting assignment(s)?

Sequent is using a port of the Retix ISO stack. Which layers are of
concern to you. We are using the ported Retix X.400, FTAM with the
upper layers. We also have protocol engine the portable transports
TP4 and TP024 for our Parallel Streams drivers.

I have been testing (alpha, beta, etc.) Retix ISO products for
about a year now. I'm running them on the SCO ODT platform.

Products investigated so far have been the following:

    LT-610 ISO LAN Transport
    WT-325 ISO WAN Transport
    FT-820 FTAM
    MH-440 X.400 Open Server
    VT-720 Virtual Terminal
    LLI (Link Layer Interface) Drivers
    NetConfig
    MH-420 RetixMail (DOS User Agent)

I have been rather satisfied with the state of these products
and have had very few problems with them.

Let me know if you have any further questions.
