[comp.protocols.iso.dev-environ] ISODE 6.8

mrose@CHEETAH.CA.PSI.COM (Marshall Rose) (03/12/91)

ISODE interim release 6.8 is now available. The majority of the work
has been done on QUIPU, the Directory implementation for the ISODE.
When you retrieve the sources, read the file QUIPU-READ-ME for all the
details. There has also been some work on the 4BSD/ISODE SNMP software.

6.8 is more stable than 6.0 but still has some bugs in the Directory
code. These are being worked on. However, it has substantial
improvements in performance, robustness, and functionality. If you are
seriously using Directory, you should get a copy of 6.8 and try it out.

The 7.0 release is tentatively scheduled to be released prior to August 1.

		     Getting a copy of 6.8(interim)

6.8 is available only via the network. Physical distribution sites are
still sending out 6.0 and will continue to do so until 7.0 is released.

The name of the file containing the 6.8 source distribution is:

	isode-interim.tar.Z

PostScript documentation can be found in

	interim-ps.tar.Z

 1. FTP
If you can FTP to the Internet, then use anonymous FTP to uu.psi.com
[136.161.128.3] to retrieve the files in BINARY mode from the isode/
    directory.

 2. NIFTP
If you run NIFTP over the public X.25 or over JANET, and are registered in
the NRS at Salford, you can use NIFTP with username "guest" and your own
name as password, to access UK.AC.UCL.CS to retrieve the files.
(Note that the postscript file won't show up for another day or so.)

Thank-you for your patience.

Dear Marshal,

I am really looking forward to the next interim version of ISODE.

> [136.161.128.3] to retrieve the files in BINARY mode from the isode/
> directory.

As the tar is pretty huge (~7MB), could you please split it up into
smaller chunks of, say 1MB or less?

So far, my two tries of ftp-ing it has failed after a couple of MBs
and it feels bad to be forced to start over and transmit the same old
first bytes again. The NORDUnet-US link is only 64kb/s so far.

I have announced over NORDUnet that I am pulling it over and that
other Scandinavians should get it from me, just to save time and
bandwidth.

Thanking you in anticipation.

Hans,

ISODE 6.8 is already available from nic.nordu.net in Stockholm. Look in
the netf-ds subdirectory for isode-interim.tar.Z. Sorry for not
announcing it. It is also available from nac.no and aun.uninett.no.

Regards,

Geir.

On uu.psi.com, in isode/interim/ there are a bunch of files named

		interim-x*

retrieve them all in binary mode, and do

	% cat interim-x* | uncompress | tar xpf -

to retrieve the 6.8(interim) release.
