I don't use gnews, but I am the author of the supercite (formerly superyank) package which provides a nice and power citation mechanism for replies/followups to email and news. Supercite can be used by gnews as it is currently being used by gnus, rmail, vm and mh-e users, though I don't know of any gnews-ers currently using supercite. For release 2.0 of supercite, I am implementing a per-interface key binding mechanism which switches off the major-mode of the reply buffer (in otherwords, different key bindings based on the email/news reader you are using) and I'd like to support gnews. I need to know what the value of `major-mode' is in the buffer that gnews puts you in when you 1) reply directly to original author, 2) followup to net, 3) forward article to 3rd party. For example, in gnus, replies to the original author are done in a buffer that uses `mail-mode' and followups to the net are done in a buffer using `news-reply-mode'. Vm and RMAIL both use `mail-mode'. What does gnews use? To find out, just do 1, 2 or 3 above as normal, then in the reply buffer type "Esc Esc major-mode <ret>". This should return a symbol. Could someone please send me a list of the 3 major-modes? Please respond directly as I don't normally read this newsgroup. Thanks. -Barry P.S. Anyone interested in more information on supercite, or in getting on the supercite mailing list, respond to supercite-request address below. I'd like to have some gnews-er work on interfacing supercite with gnews. Interested? NAME: Barry A.
