Good Evening. Welcome to a nightmare come true. I am going to try to implement lrL, short for lo-rent LAN, on my system V VAX with Intel Bit-Bus controllers (8044's). BitBus basically implements all the ethernet transport stuff (such as addressing, acknowlegement, collision detect and resolution) with a $22 chip and a RS-485 twisted pair. This seems like a such a deal. Has anybody done this before? Is it possible to obtain and gimmick for system V any of the nifty Berkley/ARPA network control stuff (FTP, SMTP, Telnet, etc) with this setup? Any recommendations on books/literature on LAN's? (The degree is in Chemical Engineering, not CS/EE) Yours from the zone, P.J. Kerrigan -- Peter Kerrigan -- ..!ihnp4!tmq!peter
