markm@CSE.OGI.EDU (Mark Morrissey) (01/05/90)
Hello, I recently (1/3/90) took a copy of bash 1.04 from prep.ai.mit.edu and installed it on my Sun4. The Sun is running OS 4.0.1 with tty patches so it is roughly equivalent to OS 4.0.3. Bash compiled without a glitch. However, I have a problem which occasionally asserts itself when I invoke bash. When I enter bash, I get the "bash$ " prompt and then the shell hangs. No input is accepted (apparantly, read on) nor do chareacters which are typed at the keyboard echoed on the screen. The first time this happened (which was, incidentally the first time I invoked bash), I blindly typed "lots" of characters and then a message (apologies, I forgot what it said exactly and did not write it down :-( ) appeared asking if I wanted to accept the command expansion (I am pretty sure that this is what it said, but I could be slightly off). This message has not appeared since then. Also, I have invoked the shell many (over 50) times and have had hangs about 5 or 6 times. Each time I have to 'kill -9' the process to get things back. I even had the shell set up to be my default shell and it worked quite well except that it would not execute my dot files (probably a user error on my part) at startup and they had to be sourced by hand. I will try to pull together a better bug report, but wanted to get something off asap in case it has already been reported and fixed (thus saving me time and effort). Please do not send mail to me by using the mail reply option - I am sending this from a machine which has an internet connection. My home email address is listed in my signature. Note: ogicse is also ogi.cse.edu (from whence I am sending this). later, -mark ======================================================================== Mark Morrissey | Where the children of Illuvitar gather Bipolar Integrated Technology | for the journey from Middle Earth.
