[net.lan] TCP/IP - PC Network

We are interested in efforts to superimpose TCP/IP on the IBM
PC Network product. The idea is to use PC Network as the
transport layer for IP. The net we have in mind might look
something like this...

      Campus wide PC Network
--------------------------------------------------------------
      | | | |
  .-------. .-------. .-------. .-------.
  |TCP/IP | |TCP/IP | |TCP/IP | |TCP/IP |
  |Server | |Server | |Server | |Router |
  |Router | |Router | |Router | | |
  .-------. .-------. .-------. .-------.
      | | | |
      | | | |
                                                    Base Band
.... Local PC Networks .... Ethernet

We would have lots of local building wide PC Networks. Each would
have a dedicated PC with two PC Network cards, one used to talk to
its client PCs and the other used for IP communication with other
server/routers and with a router that has access to the rest of the
Internet. The user of a PC on the local PC Networks would establish
a session to the TCP/IP server and then use FTP or TELNET commands
on the server to access the rest of the Internet.

This approach allows one to cover a large geographic area, use PC Network
for most of the work, keep all of the user PCs off the Internet, and
still provide access to the Internet.

We would like to hear from anyone planning similar mixtures of PC Network
(or Apple's network) and TCP/IP.
