[soc.feminism] reading group?

rshapiro@BBN.COM (Richard Shapiro) (10/16/89)

Is anyone interested in forming a reading group for investigating
feminist psychoanalysis? In particular, I've been trying with mixed
success to read (the English translation of) Luce Irigaray's "Speculum
of the Other Woman". I would find it enormously helpful if a few
others (not too many, that would get out of hand) who were reading the
same book were willing to carry on an email discussion - kind of an
impromptu mailing-list study group. No big formal deal; just three or
four people with the inclination (and time) to read a book and "talk"
about it. Since the focus of feminist psychoanalysis is the formation
of gendered subjectivity, it would be nice, at least, if both genders
were represented, and helpful if at least one person had some real
expertise and background in Freud/Lacan.

There are two reasons why I don't want to carry on this discussion
directly in soc.feminism. First, the nature of moderated newsgroups
makes communication too slow; and second, the specifics would be much
too narrowly focused to be of general interest.

So, anyone interested? Send email if so: rshapiro@bbn.com.
