[Apologies if you see this twice. The header was slightly corrupted and gave me some trouble upon posting. --clt] Kia ora (Greetings), I am involved in a research project that includes creating a bibliography. The best way of getting good references is to ask other people for recommendations rather than do a computer look up where you don't really know what is in a document. Our research has developed from a concern about the few women in Computer Science at Victoria University. We are particularly worried about the number of women who drop out after the introductory course. The areas of interest for our research project are: - women and computer education (especially students) - women and information technology education (especially students) - women and mathematics education (especially students) - women and science education (especially students) - gender and tertiary (e.g. university) education We are primarily interested in university education and are interested how this affects all women including lesbians, non-white women, and differently abled women. We are also particularly interested in any research on women dropping out of computing or other science courses. I believe that Margaret Benston of Simon Fraser University in Vancouver is doing something in this area and that she is on the net. I would really appreciate it if readers of Soc.feminism could email me the names of their recommended references and a small comment about what is in each one and why they recommend it. I will post the complete bibliography to this group. Julie HARRIS julie@comp.vuw.ac.nz c/o Computer Science Department Victoria University of Wellington Aotearoa (New Zealand).
