[soc.religion.christian] Target Earth: a brief review

bob@cis.ohio-state.edu (Bob Sutterfield) (08/05/89)

"Target Earth: The necessity of diversity in a holistic perspective on
world mission". Co-published by YWAM's University of the Nations
(Hawaii) and Global Mapping International (Pasadena). Frank Kaleb
Jansen, General Editor.

It was released at Lausanne II in Manila, and I got a copy last week
at the ACMC conference at Wheaton. It's basically an atlas of the
world, but with World Christian-oriented commentaries on each aspect.
For instance, the page on soil erosion not only presents the
statistics but discusses man's failure in our role of stewardship over
the environment. Population demographics are presented to show
peoples more than political divisions, and factors affecting those
peoples' receptivity to the Gospel.

The charts, graphs, maps, etc. are presented in a very understandable
format, and in a way that harmonizes well with the text's message.
For instance, countries are represented by rectangles sized according
to their population.

It's 175 pages, softcover, and a very high-quality production. I've
been sharing it around my church this week and each individual has had
their eyes opened to some aspect of our relationship to the rest of
the world. It's a good motivational tool, and somewhat of a reference
book as well.

You can get it through the William Carey Library at the US Center for
World Mission, and order forms are on the back of the current issue of
Mission Frontiers. Please, check it out!
