Apologies, Ivy, for not addressing your question. The fragment above
reminded me of something I learned recently that might be of interest
to those who read this newsgroup.

The fellowship that I'm a member of is acquainted with George Caywood
(Caewood?) who the director of the Union Rescue Mission in Los Angeles.
He comes and spends time with us on occasion as a retreat and also to
share with us his observations about what he sees happening in the inner
city and what God is presently doing in the world.

Recently, George had the privelege of attending the World Congress on
Evangelism. He relayed some observations to us from that experience:

1. Thirld world christians have taken over the leadership roles in
evangelical christianity.

2. Thirld world christians (though polite enough about it when talking
to christians from industrialized nations) are extremely embarrased by
state of western christianity and have to apologize for us to their
constiuencies.

3. They are concerned for us and pray for us.

I am most heartened and encouraged by the third observation.
