i wonder if you people in net-land who have experiences of running different
types of Ethernet cards on VAXen under 4.2BSD would be kind enough to answer
me a few questions?
we have a VAX 750 with an Interlan NI1010 Ethernet card running under 4.2BSD.
we also have many 68000 based microcomputers on the same Ethernet.
we are in the process of getting another VAX 750 (probably running 4.2BSD),
and have not yet decided on which Ethernet card it should use. we have heard
blurb from various salesmen, but we are also interested in user experiences.
so to the questions:
1) are there any sites out there who run very smart Ethernet cards on a VAX
under 4.2BSD?
if so, what types of cards are you running, and are you very happy or unhappy
with them?
if you do run smart Ethernet cards, did you get the driver for the card from
the card supplier, did you write it yourself, or did you buy it in from a third
party?
if you run smart Ethernet cards, have you had any problems with them fitting in
with the 4.2BSD networking code?
2) does anyone have recomendations for Ethernet cards and software that they
have on site and are pleased with?
3) are there any Ethernet cards or drivers that you would avoid like the
plague?
4) if you have swapped a dumb Ethernet card for a really intelligent Ethernet
card recently, have you noticed a big improvement in Ethernet or system
performance? if so, i would be interested to know details.
