This is not intended to refute anything posted, but more to provide some food for thought. My belief in the Apostolic Succession is made necessary by the combination of one matter of Doctrine, and a quote from the Gospel accordng to John. John 20:23 says "Whose soever sins ye remit, they are remitted; and whose soever ye retain, they are retained" Take this in conjunction with Sacramental Confession, and to my eyes, the Apostolic Succession is implied [ yes - I may be getting on thin ice here - I know that! ] However, in my mind, without Apostolic Succession, Sacramental Confession becomes meaningless, even though John 20:23 implies otherwise. It could of course be that Jesus is saying that remission of sins in his name can be done by _ANY_ disciple, but I prefer to chose the Apostolic view. I agree I may be wrong, but these are my beliefs. -- dg@lakart.UUCP - David Goodenough +---+ IHS | +-+-+ ..... !harvard!xait!lakart!dg +-+-+ | AKA: dg%lakart.uucp@xait.xerox.com +---+
