Almost every week I get either a posting or personal mail asking about machine-readable Bibles. I've kept some past messages, but they leave some questions unresolved. Because the question is so common, I propose to create a single "official" answer, which will be posted periodically as part of one of the "commonly asked questions" postings that are now done in a number of groups. Thus I'd like to request people to send me any information they have on machine-readable Bibles, both simple text and packages complete with software to manipulate them. The most useful information is where you've used it yourself or in some other way can verify the accuracy of what you say. In particular, I'd like to hear from people who have gotten the online KJV either from Simtel or U of Chicago, so I can make sure that the instructions I give actually work. Also, several times we've given people the address of the New York International Bible Society, on the theory that it's probably possible to get the text of the NIV from them. I'd like to know whether anybody has actually succeeded in doing so, and if so what form it comes in. I'll put the information together and post a draft message for review by our readers.
