                                  DISCIPLESHIP

INTRODUCTION ACTS 11:19-26
A) Disciples were first called Christians at Antioch.
     1) 10 Years after Church starts. (Christian was a derogatory term then.)
       *B) DISCIPLE = CHRISTIAN = SAVED
C) The word "Christian" only occurs 3 times in the New Testament.
The word "Disciple" occurs more than 270 times in New Testament.
          1) We need to know what it means to make a decision to be a disciple
to know what it means to become a christian, or saved.
I) MARK 1:14-18
A) Calling of the first Disciples.
       *B) Come FOLLOW ME (Christ)
C) "...Make you fishers of men" - GIVES OUR PURPOSE FOR LIVING!
D) When? Immediately !
II) LUKE 9:23-26
A) If any man...
B) Deny Self...Christ in Garden (MATT 26:36-39)"Not my will but your
will be done..." Not in moods, what if Jesus did not deny himself?
C) Carry Cross daily.
1) 24 Hour committment.
D) Gain world...Forfeit soul.
1) Alternative is to be an enemy of God.

III) LUKE 14:25-33
A) If any man...
B) V. 28:30: Count the Cost
C) V. 31-32: Consider the alternatives, being an enemy of God.
*D) V. 26 : Love Christ more than any person
  - How many people out of 1000 would say Jesus is #1 in their life?
E) V. 27 : Persecutions
*F) V. 33 : Everything - not just anything.
G) RE-CAP of each point in study so far:
"Have you made *1) MARK 1 = FOLLOW ME & LIFE PURPOSE
 the full comm.*2) LUKE 9 = ANY MAN/DENY SELF/CARRY CROSS DAILY/24 HRS.
 we see here?" *3) LUKE 14 = COUNT COSTS/LOVE CHRIST ABOVE ALL/PERSECUTION
                             EVERYTHING IS HIS.

 QUESTION TO ASK YOURSELF:

"As you look at what Jesus expects from us here in the scriptures, and as
you think back on the decisions you made about Christ, Think if you
decided to become a Disciple or not, but before you answer, do you recall
deciding to follow Christ, taking on His purpose for your life, making it
the priority, the passion of your life above all other things, to change
your life to please God and work to win people to Christ? To deny
yourself, take up your cross daily, love christ above all, be willing to
face persecution, to hold to the committment Jesus teaches here in the
    scriptures your entire life?

                                           NO YES

(Remember, If you did not understand even this, (Discipleship) in your
religious past, then you weren't able to decide then. Decisions are
made after the facts are known. Decisions are not retroactive.)

VI) LUKE 11:1-4
A) Must learn how to pray - Disciples saw strength Jesus received from
   the Father.
B) V. 3 - Daily personal relationship with God.
        C) Willing to be taught by others.
V) MATTHEW 28:18-20
*A) Command - Make Disciples, given to all.
B) Who are candidates for baptism? Disciples. (...baptizing THEM...)
C)You need someone to disciple you to maturity in Christ.
D) This is the only way to save the world!

Compare a Church that does not (Preacher) teach as Jesus did to be a disciple
and to go make disciples who will go make disciples, etc... To a Church that
does teach this (Discipler). As the years go by, how many people will be
reached with the saving message of Jesus Christ?

YEAR PREACHER DISCIPLER (This is a mathmatical

ASK YOURSELF:
             1) Am I a Disciple?
             2) Am I a Christian?
             3) Am I saved?
             4) What do I need to do to become a Disciple?
