I think that the ad hominem attacks against the Catholic Church are thoughtless but grounded. They are, I think, expressions of distaste for the authoritarian church organization and hierarchy which makes it possible for nuns and other incompetents to force left-handed students to be right-handed, etc., while representing the church. It is just not possible to divorce Catholic doctrine from Catholic organization as is sometimes attempted. The Catholic Organization IS a de facto doctrine about the way Catholics believe God intended His Church to be organized. It is foolish to insist on an infallible Church and at the same time attribute every distasteful action on the part of a representative of that church (like a nun or priest from our past) as an isolated incident.
