[This is in response to the discussion of online availablility of the RSV, and its copyright status. --clh] Perhaps we could create a newsgroup called soc.religion.bible which would contain the entire Bible under different topic headings, one for each book of the Bible. Unfortunately, people might complain about wasted bandwidth, etc. Is this anything comparable on the Net (religious or otherwise)? Manuals, original programs, etc., which exist solely for informational access? -- Sincerely, Cindy Smith emory!dragon!cms [My suspicion is that there would be objections to this use of bandwidth. News is probably not the right way to distribute the Bible, since news articles typically vanish from systems quickly. Thus material that is expected to have a long life as reference material is normally kept online somewhere and made available via FTP, mail, UUCP transfer, etc. There are copies of the KJV available this way. (See my standard message on online Bibles for details.) I think that would be more appropriate. Comp.doc does post documents such as RFC's. It's the only case I know of where reference material is posted. It is normally used to get out documents when they originate. The presumption is that people will store the ones they want to keep. Its volume is pretty low. --clh]
