This time I believe that I will post an understandable message. Well here goes nothing. I am a graduate student working on my master's degree in computer science. Since I plan on writing a gateway I am interested in the current thinking on this subject. Specifically what research is being done to determine what is the best method for writing a gateway. I am also interested in general information on the writing of a gateway. Thank you for your prompt attention. David A. Hoppe Rochester Institute of Technology

++ > Since I plan on writing a gateway I am interested in > the current thinking on this subject. > David A. Hoppe I don't know about *writing* a gateway, but I have some experience in *building* a gateway. We plan to present a paper at ICC in June on a Ethernet/Fasnet (Local Area Network/Metropolitan Area Network) gateway which we have designed, and is presently being built. Our thinking is that where speed is of the essence, it is important to bring as much intellegence as possible to the lower levels of hardware and protocol. If you're interested, I could go into a little more detail. -Mark Garrett Bell Communications Research
