This posting is meant to solicit commentary from
different perspectives and not to try to make
any claim of validity to the following assertion.
I am really interested in how well the following
fits a "revelation in type" for an event
and compares to the development in a Christians
life as Man is clearly tied symbolically to the earth
created from its dust.
There are stages that the earth is/has/will go through.
This is how I see them related to man:
I The existance "formless and void" ---- pre-incarnate
II The existance as good. (Garden of Eden)
--- conception to birth
III The cursed world ---- birth to baptism
IV The Flooded World (destruction of wicked, salvation of righteous)
--- baptism
V The Post-Flood World --- new life in Christ?
VI The destruction with fire (end of this world) death?
VII The New World --salvation, eternal life, glorified bodies?
Comments? Other alternatives?
The study of types can become "self fulfilling" in that it looks to
match repetitious motifs and sometimes can make a motif where one
isn't really there. However, when one begins a study of types the
repetative patterns are sometimes overwhelming, to the extent that
one can find a motif that fits a pre-established pattern easily.
What I have listed above seems to be a sensible parallel. What
I am really looking for is more of a "sanity" check to see if it
also a reasonable parallel to others, or if something else seems
more reasonable.
Also, I am not putting this forward as a belief (yet) but am looking
at it and offering it as an idea for discussion to determine if
it has a validity. (Hope that made sense.)
