After reading some of the letters from service personnel in Saudi Arabia, I thought about how tough it is to be away from home, in a foreign country, and facing the uncertainty of whether or not tomorrow will see you in a battle for your very life. Then I thought about the many Christians that came my way while I was in the Army. I was not overly fond of Christians back then, but I always knew that they would do right by me. They would provide me with a meal and some of the comforts of home (personal items like a toothbrush, toothpaste, razor, shaving cream, etc.) And more, they were very good listeners. That may be one of the reasons that I was not much of a Christian-basher back then. Anyway, I thought that it would be a loving thing to send "care" packages to units over there for the men and women in those units. Many of them have no families to speak of and get nothing from the States, unless some adopts them. If any of you would be interested in doing this, here is the addresses to use: To any soldier, airman/woman, Marine: Operation Desert Shield APO New York 09848-0006 To any sailor or Marine aboard ship: Operation Desert Shield FPO New York 09866-0006 There are some restrictions on what you can send them, so I would suggest that you write an open letter first and ask what the restrictions are. Personally, I plan to repay some of what was given to me--when I least deserved it. Grace and peace, Gene Gross
