[soc.religion.christian] SUFFERING

ASC105@psuvm.psu.edu (11/10/90)

Suffering takes on several forms. But here are 2 kinds discussed:
1) It is a promise in the bible that anyone who wants to go all the way with
Jesus Christ will be persecuted. PERSECUTION is suffering.
2) During Jesus's walk on the earth, he healed many who were opressed by the
devil. The diseases came from Satan. DISEASE is also suffering.

Now, which kind of suffering was Jesus busy getting rid of AND
which kind did he promise to his followers? Jesus promised the persection and
was HEALING the sufferers of diseases. To die because of persecution is one
thing, but dying of disease is another. The lie of Satan is that if terminal
illness strikes, then it must be God's will.Christians end up blaming God when
it was Satan. Of course, sinning can cause sickness too. But sinning is also
being out of God's will by giving a foothold to Satan. Sinning can block
the healing of a Christian. Once the Christian gets right with God he can cast
off the disease in the Name of Jesus.

Allen,

Someone mentioned this before, but since you seem to have overlooked it
I'll repeat it here: what about the Apostle Paul's "thorn in the flesh"
(2 Cor 12:1-10, if memory serves)? If what you say is true, then you appear
to be saying that Paul himself was not "right with God." Think about it.

Grace and peace,

Charles Ferenbaugh

This has always been an interesting topic for me and having read your
post and the responses that followed, I would like to add my opinion,
but I would like someone to answer my questions first so that I
understand what you are saying.

Is the doctrine you are proposing saying that all disease is due to
Satanic causes? If a Christian is "right with God" that he can "In
the name of Jesus" cast off the disease and be rid of it? If the
Christian is not cured of the disease, is it because of lack of
faith? still not right with God? still some sin known or unknown
blocking the way? What is the reason that solid non-sinning
Christians still suffer from diseases even after claiming healing in
the name of Jesus.

Thanks for your response.
