[soc.religion.christian] ordination of women

David.Anderson@cs.cmu.edu (11/30/90)

Hi all, Lynn here.

I haven't seen this subject discussed in src, and I'm currently writing
a rather lengthy piece on the subject of women's ordination to the
priesthood. I would be interested in knowing what the views of various
denominations are on the subject, which denominations allow women to be
ordained, etc., and what some of the scriptural reasoning is behind
prohibiting or allowing such ordination. I'd especially be interested in
some good book or article references on the subject. Thanks.

[It might be useful to send brief email notes to David, and have him
summarize what denominations do and don't ordain women. The ones I
know of that ordain women are all "liberal" churches: United
Methodist, Presbyterian (USA), Episcopal. I recall in previous
reading a comment that in the 19th Cent., the Pentacostal tradition
tended to include ordained women, but with the development of
fundamentalism, they abandoned it. --clh]
