laurie@hplvec.lvld.hp.com (Laurie Schaaf) (01/21/91)

I was wondering if any of you out there could recommend sources
for the following:

	The Protestant Reformation 1500-1700 C.E. (c.e.=common era)

	American Christianity 1800-1980
		A. 19th Century Diversity
		B. 20th Century Emerging Ecumenism
		C. Contemporary Trends: Vatican II - Protestant Fundamentalism

I am to give a 20 minute talk on the above and need some sound
solid sources to get information from.

Any ideas or papers or ........

Thanks very much in advance for your help!

[When I was in college (which is long enough that there may now be
better sources), Bainton's book "The Reformation of the 16th Cent."
was recommended. It's reasonably enjoyable reading. A standard
reference on American religious history is Ahlstrom's "A Religious
History of the American People". It's much longer and more detailed
than Bainton's. A recent book that deals with all of Church History
(though obviously each topic is dealt with only briefly) is the Oxford
Illustrated History of Christianity. The portions I've had a chance
to look at seem to reflect recent interests in "social history".
