[net.lan] Further comments on:Ethernet, protocols and TCP/IP for VMS

sharpe@munnari.OZ (Richard Sharpe) (03/13/86)

Following up my posting of yesterday, two further points:

  1. I have nothing to do with the University of Melbourne, and my opinions
are mine alone. I just use a guest account on one of their host's
     from time to time.

  2. In fairnes to TWG, the Excelan TCP/IP only gives you TCP/IP
over Ethernet, whereas TWG's gives you drivers for all sorts or
Ethernet controller boards, as well as for 64kbps serial lines (sync)
and maybe even for async if I have read the documentation right.

Personally, I would put that sort of thing out on the Ethernet anyway,
where it belongs in my view, by using a Bridge Communications Inc GS
     box, or something similar.
