Ever seen the movie "Inn of the Sixth Happiness?" It stars Ingrid Bergman and Curt Jurgens. I don't remember how old it is. It is one of the few movies I have ever seen that really paints a positive picture of missions and missionaries. (The missionary is played - and very well IMPO - by Ingrid Bergman.) And it's a good movie too. At least, I think so. Give it a try next time you rent a video, and let me know whether you liked it or not. RG

lvron@saturn.lerc.nasa.gov (Ronald E. Graham) writes recommending the movie "Inn of the Sixth Happiness" starring Ingrid Bergman and Curt Jurgens. Thanks for the suggestion! It's always nice to hear of movies that are really worthwhile viewing for Christians. Another that I'd like to recommend is ``Mass Appeal,'' starring Jack Lemmon. Lemmon plays Father Farley, a spineless parish priest who learns about taking a stand from a seminary student. It's perhaps not appropriate for young children (The movie deals with homosexuality and contains some foul language. I think it's rated PG, and you can probably find worse on TV any night of the week, but I like to take things conservatively). I would certainly consider it appropriate viewing for teenagers and adults. It is probably my favorite movie of all time (maybe because I relate all too well to Father Farley :^) ). Any other good movies people want to recommend? -- Geoff Allen \ Since we live by the Spirit, uunet!pmafire!geoff \ let us keep in step with the Spirit. geoff@pmafire.inel.gov \ -- Gal. 5:25 (NIV)

I've read the book, which appears also under the title "The Little Woman" as well as "The Inn of The Sixth Happiness"- I don't have it with me, so I forget the author. Under the first title it was punlished by some missionary organization, under the second, in conjunction with the release of the movie. I have the impression that it was written by an eager missionary not accustomed to literary endeavors.
