[soc.religion.christian] COMPARE BIBLE/NEWS ARTICLES

bwood@su1b.uucp (Barbara Wood) (01/25/91)

Hi!
There is a great book out explaining what is happening now and in the near
future combining comparisons of scripture and news articles: for those who
care to know what the Bible has prophecied (I thought you might) If not I
do apologize :
The prophecies concern one world government, one world religion, one world
money, where Russia (symbolically called the Bear), England (the Lion),
Germany (the Leopard), USA (the eagle), Israel (the woman, whom the eagle helps)
how the anti-christ will come to power by peace and after the peace (which will
last 3 & 1/2 years) he will turn "dictator" and of course the best part is how
one can avoid going thru all of that mess.... It's more than just "belief" too.

Barbara Wood makes a post about some prophecy with a lion, a bear, and a
leopard. I assume she must be referring to Daniel 7.

While some of the prophecies in Daniel are open to a lot of question, the
prophecies of Daniel 7 and 8 are interpreted within Daniel to signify
the four world empires which *did* rule the whole world, namely Babylonia,
Persia, Greece, and Rome in that order. Thus these prophecies have already
been fulfilled. Implicit in these prophecies also is the idea that there
will be no other world governments that succeed between now and when Christ
sets up His kingdom.

None of those four were world governments either. Makes me suspect
that we need a less literal interpretation of the prophecy.

No, not of the whole planet. But they did encompass all or most of the
KNOWN WORLD of that time. We must remember the cultural and historical
contexts under which scripture was written when we seek to interpret it.

That's simply not true. In every one of those empires, they
encompassed wide areas, but it was well known that there were lots of
people outside those areas. Rome and Alexander are similar examples
of "world empires" that weren't, and they knew it.
