A friend of mine heard a better one at a peace vigil at the Capitol
building a couple of weeks ago: that it was the cross reversed,
broken, and urinated around. Lovely, hm?

Actually, the peace sign was derived by combining the semaphore sigil
for "n" and for "d" -- and the combination is meant to stand for
"Nuclear Disarmament."

Alas, not nearly so dramatic or pernicious as some would like to
believe.
