We would like to add more machines to our ethernet (at MIT, not Harvard) and would (of course) like to minimize cost. Buying ethernet cables seems very expensive for what is essential just a piece of wire, so we were wondering about making our own. Can anyone suggest if this is an okay idea or give reasons (or experiences) why it won't work? For those who say it's okay, can they suggest suppliers for the pieces? For those who say no, can they suggest other ways to save money, given that we've already installed a regular ethernet cable? We're planning to use a DELNI; perhaps people can give their impressions of them too. If you can, please mail also to kevin@xv.mit.edu, since I read that account much more often. -- Kevin Crowston UUCP: {seismo,ut-sally}!harvard!kevin MIT Sloan School of Management ARPA: kevin@xv.mit.edu or kevin@harvard.arpa
