[net.lan] Ethernet Protocol Analyzers

mccallum@nbires.UUCP (Doug McCallum) (08/29/84)

It's been a few weeks since I posted a request for info
on Ethernet protocol analyzers and I haven't gotten much.
One person suggested using an IBM/PC with the MIT TCP/IP
and a number of others said they were also interested.

The MIT TCP/IP for the PC doesn't do quite enough for my needs.

If no one has any experience with a particular analyzer, does anyone
know what vendor's other than Excelan have a product for Ethernet/IEEE 802.3?

If I get any useful information I will post it.

		Thanks,

Anyone have any experience with any of the LAN protocol analyzers on the
market? We're thinking about buying one to do performance measurment,
statistics as well helping protocol development.
The ability to understand TCP/IP and Internet addressing, routing, etc.
is a must.
I'm waiting for a sales critter to show us the HP 4971. Anyone have one?

If there is sufficient response, I'll summarize... Thanks.
