If this question has been hashed around before, my apologies. I just subscribed to this group this morning, and none of the 284 articles I scanned mentioned this. What is the significance of the upside down cross? At first, I thought it was simply a mocking of Christianity. But something I heard in the last couple days has caused a lot of concern. Also, in a simliar vein, I have never really bothered to learn the significance of the pentagram (5 pointed star). According to one person I've met, both these symbols have some serious connotations, but I haven't had time to talk to him more. Is there a quick book on such material? We never covered this material in any class I've been in. Brad wetmore@iris.eecs.ucdavis.edu [The majority opinion seems to be that the significance of symbols depends upon who uses them. Tradition has it that Peter was crucified on an upside-down cross because he didn't feel himself worthy to die the same way as his master. But that's not to say that this is what everybody who uses this symbol is thinking of. --clh]
