[soc.religion.christian] RCC and scripture

rb65@prism.gatech.edu (Butera, Robert J.) (06/21/91)

A question to all members of the RCC out there. The subject of
inerrancy/how literal to take scripture is a topic that has received
a lot of publicity lately and is causing considerable strife in several
denominations (eg. Southern Baptist and PCUSA to name a few). I was
raised Catholic (including a parochial high school) and was never taught
a specific position with regard to scripture. I can say, however, that
looking back on the Sisters of Mercy I had in high school, most of the
younger sisters had a moderate to liberal view of things. Just
curious.

P.S. I'd just like an answer to my question and do not intend to start
another flame war from every one telling how they think to accept
scripture. All this denominational and scriptural debate seems to go
nowhere .... ecumenism is far away in my book!

[In this context if anybody wants to refer to "inerrancy", be sure
you define what you mean, because in the past Catholics have used
the term with a meaning that seems different than what Protestants
usually mean by it. --clh]
