[soc.religion.christian] TONGUES FOR TODAY? PART 3

                            Tongues for Today? Part 3

I need to clear something up before continuing. The examples I share are
my personal incounters with the tongues movement. I received a mail
message from someone who corrected me on what I said about the J.W.'s. My
statement was general which I thought held true for their belief on the
tongues issue. I stand corrected they believe that it is a demonic or
satanic influences and that Tongues were only for the first century and
today see it as stated above. My example was from my grandmother who was
a J.W. and shared her experience with my mother. She later worshipped in
a Baptist church before she died. Again I am sorry for making a general
statement about the J.W.'s all together.

This next example will hit home for any Lutherans but I believe it is only
fair since I am speaking of the Assemblies of God or World Harvest Church
or the other independent churches I have attended that agree with the
tongues movement today. I do worship in a Lutheran Church Missouri Synod
and the example is about Christ the King Lutheran in Columbus.

Troy a friend of mine attend a weekend retreat at the C.K.L. to see if
this was a church that Troy would like to go to. I don't know what synod
they are with or if they are independent. The Ladie speaker is a
counselor who works with many mental disorders. She spoke of a disorder
of being spiritually seperated from once self. An example she gave was
that if people go through a bad experience like rape or witnessing a
murder or something that you just want to block out of your mind, that
some people will take on a new personality. She gave a medical name for
it but I cann't remember what it is. Help me if anyone knows. Well she
offered prayer and counseling for anyone in this state so that the people
could be whole again. The verse she used:

1 Thes 5:23 May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and
through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept
blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. (NIV)

Stating that the person needs to be Whole of Body Soul and Spirit. That
sounded good to me. Triune God, Triune Man. Well later that evening she
offered people to receive the Holy Spirit saying that you maybe saved by
receiving Jesus into your life but you also need to receive the Holy
Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues. This is when the flags
went up she just gave us the definition of the mental illness of us being
spiritually seperated and need to be whole, than she seperated the
God-Head. Her is the verse she used to prove her point:

Luke 11:13 If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts
to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give
the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!" (NIV)

Again the flags went up from what she was saying. Jesus tells us that the
Fathers name is His name and so is the Holy Spirit.

John 14:26 BUT THE COUNSELOR, THE HOLY SPIRIT, WHOM THE FATHER WILL SEND
IN MY NAME, will teach you all things and will remind you of
everything I have said to you. (NIV)

John 17:11 I will remain in the world no longer, but they are still in the
world, and I am coming to you. HOLY FATHER, PROTECT THEM BY THE
POWER OF YOUR NAME-- THE NAME YOU GAVE ME-- so that they may be
one as we are one. (NIV)

Also the Apostles understood this that in the name of Jesus we have the
name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit from Jesus' command to
    how the carried it out.

Matt 28:19-20 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations,
baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and
                  of the Holy Spirit,
20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded
you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the
                  age."" (NIV)

Acts 2:38-39 38 Peter replied, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you,
in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins.
And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
39 The promise is for you and your children and for all who
are far off-- for all whom the Lord our God will call."
                 (NIV)

The apostles used the name of Jesus to baptize fulfilling what Jesus had
commanded. So I concluded that if you asked for Jesus to come into your
life you have already received the Holy Spirit. So what was this woman
teaching? I believe it is a heresy for anyone to spiritually seperate the
God-head. Troy and I talked about what happen that night and did not
return the next day for the retreat.

I will continue to test and prove what I find in the scriptures to be
truth on this topic. And still welcome anyones comments on the
Pentecostal movement. I just want people to see that if you hear a
teaching on any topic in the bible don't take my word on it or anyone
elses but test and prove it by the bible through prayer and guidence of
    the Holy Spirit.

I thought this example might show people I am aware of the pentecostal
movement in the Lutheran church and believe that there are others out
there who could share from the other denominations that I haven't
mentioned yet. Religion doesn't save you it is coming into contact with
the blood of the new covenant.

Heb 13:12 And so Jesus also suffered outside the city gate to make the
people holy through his own blood. (NIV)

Eph 1:4-5 4 For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to
be holy and blameless in his sight. In love
5 he predestined us to be adopted as his sons through Jesus
Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will-- (NIV)

Jesus' blood is the only way for us to enter into heaven.

    In His Hands,

    Joel

2 Tim 2:15 Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a
workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly
handles the word of truth. (NIV)

1 Thes 5:21 Test everything. Hold on to the good. (NIV)
