[ga.general] Georgia Tech Computer Science down in stages starting 5 September

win@gatech.edu (Win Strickland Jr) (08/30/89)

The Information and Computer Science Department at Georgia Tech will be
moving to a new building over the quarter break, beginning on Tuesday
September 5th. This process will take at *least* a week, and due to the
mover's schedule, many department workstations will be down for some
time, potentially as much as 10 days.

During this time, the node gatech.edu will remain up (I hope!) as it
will not be moving to the new building. Thus, news and mail flow
through gatech.edu (gatech) SHOULD NOT be affected. Any mail heading
to a Computer Science workstation will be held on gatech.edu until
the workstation resurrects (and is connected to the campus network).
All the Computer Science workstations will be renumbering from their 128.61
class B address to some new 130.207.X class B subnet address. Again,
the node gatech.edu will NOT be changing numbers.

Sometime in the near future, after the dust and chaos from the move,
gatech.edu will be replaced by a new machine, hopefully transparently
to the rest of the world.

Mail to the general campus computing environment (prism) SHOULD not
be affected during this time.

Problems noticed during this time should be addressed to the postmaster
on gatech.edu, who will answer them as quickly as possible given that
he will be moving and helping with others in the move.
